Dear Fellow Community Members,

Salaamun Alaykum.

Hope that you are well InshAllah.

I would like to quote our 11th Holy Imam al-Hasan al-'Askari ('a.s) so that we may ponder on these wise words:

“Generosity has a limit, which when crossed becomes extravagance; caution has a limit which when crossed becomes cowardice; thriftiness has a limit, which when crossed becomes miserliness; courage has a limit, which when crossed becomes fool-hardiness. Let this moral lesson suffice: refrain from doing anything which you would disapprove of if done by someone else”.

Referendum Date

As you may have heard, the Referendum will take place between 14th and 16th March 2013 InshAllah (with voting over three days). The Referendum is certainly one of the most important decisions that our Community has ever made. Therefore, we are very pleased that the number of people eligible to participate in it has been increased as a result of the members of the Jamaat members voting to allow all members and every person in their households, who are eligible for membership (as per the current constitution), to vote in this Referendum. This also includes ladies, widows and divorcees (whose spouses were members of KSIMC of Birmingham) and their households. More information on the protocols for the Referendum can be found here.

Why did the Referendum not take place sooner?

Dear Community Members,
Salaamun Alaykum,
I hope you are well by the grace of Allah (SWT). I am writing to give you notice of the Referendum to decide on the location of our Community Centre (Mehfil-e-Abbas (AS) Project) as per the resolution passed in the last Annual General Meeting on 25th March 2012 which was postponed on 23rd September 2012.
We will Insha’Allah be holding the Referendum on the following dates and times:
• Thursday 14th March 2013 {20:30 – 22:30} - Short presentation summarising the options and the additional information that the Building Committee has put together over the last few months. Voting will open after these presentations.
• Friday 15th March 2013: 2 Sessions
o Salatul Jum’a {11:00 – 14:00}
o Salatul Maghrib {19:00- 20:30}
• Saturday 16th March 2013 {12:00 – 14:30}
The results of the Referendum will be announced on Saturday 16th March 2013 during the Maulud of Sayyida Zaynab (AS).
As per the resolution passed at the EGM on 6th November 2012 for which the minutes are attached, the following will be eligible to vote:
• Current members and every person in their households, eligible for membership (as per the current constitution) of the KSIMC of Birmingham can vote.
• Widows and divorcees (whose spouses were members of KSIMC of Birmingham) and every person in their households, eligible for membership (as per the current constitution) of the KSIMC of Birmingham can vote.

Salamun Alaykum,

Hope that you are all well InshAllah.

I would like to start by wishing you and your families a Happy Eid-e-Ghadeer and Eid-e-Mubahila Mubarak.

To all of those of were blessed to have been guests of the Almighty, I pray that your Hajj is graced with divine acceptance and that the Community can benefit from the blessings of your sacred experiences.

Please find below a short update regarding the activities of the Building Committee.

Reminder regarding the EGM this Tuesday!

Thanks to all of you who attended the Referendum on September 23rd 2012.  As many of you are aware, the members who attended unanimously agreed to postpone the Referendum and instructed the EC to look at ways to involve the Ladies in voting.

Therefore, on THIS evening Tuesday (6th November 2012), there will be an Extraordinary General Meeting at 8pm in order to pass a resolution defining who can vote in the Referendum. We are hoping that the meeting will be quite short and therefore would like to urge all members to attend.

Salamun Alaykum,

The month of Shahr Ramadhan has flown by, and I pray that Allah (s) accepts all of our efforts in the Holy Month. Alhamdullilah we have made significant progress during August, which I would like to share with you.

Referendum
The Building Committee and the Executive Committee have agreed that the referendum will take place on Sunday 23rd September 2012 (after Dhuhr Salaat). All community members are encouraged to attend. If for whatever reason a member is not able to make it on the 23rd, there will also be an opportunity to vote on Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th September between 7.30pm and 9.00pm.

The results of the referendum will be announced on Thursday 27th September 2012. On the day that the results  are announced, there will also be a short presentation by the Building Committee on the next steps.

InshAllah, over the next two weeks we will be bringing all the work we have done over the past 180 days; so that the Community can make an informed decision. We intend to post a summary of the information by mail, with the full information pack being made available online and on request from the Jamaat Office.

At the moment, we are awaiting final draft sketches from the architects, which will allow us to prepare outline costings for both the "stay" and "go" options, which will be presented to the Community.

Prospect Place

During August we have held two meetings with the owners of Prospect Place, which is the industrial site adjacent to our complex. Our aim in meeting with the owners was to try and explain to them what we are trying to do and to find out whether they would be willing to sell the whole or part of the estate to the community. Our discussions are in very early stages and will only be taken further if the community decides to vote to stay at Clifton Road at the referendum.
