On Sunday 15th November 2015, BAYN hosted their 3rd event at Mehfil-e-Abbas from 7-9pm. The evening began with a short video emphasising how short life is, the importance of remembering Allah (swt) and how to be mindful of the choices we are making.

The 1st speaker, Shaykh Muhammad Murtadha Naqvi who has lectured in various places around the world and in the UK, was introduced and spoke about changing our perceptions and utilising our time in order to gain proxomity to Allah (swt) in order to trangress through this Dunya successfully. He stressed that the Dunya and our Deen are not seperate entities, but in fact attached and we must work on not allowing the Dunya to control us.

The audience were given the opportunity to ask questions and the points raised were how to utilise our time by reflecting and ways of changing perceptions by researching our beliefs.

Following a short break, Dr Nawshad Suleman led an interactive workshop revolving around how success is defined and barriers to success. He took the audience on a journey of how success is measured according to experts and how our definitions are often similar. He touched on ways of working towards being successful and how Imam Ali (as) has given us guidance by teaching us that "The value of a man is measured by what he does well."

The event concluded with a final video about saying sorry to those we wrong and repentance to Allah (swt) not being something we should be scared of, for He is the most forgivingand merciful.

On Thursday 5th November 2015, the KSIMC Birmingham Burial Committee in conjunction with Birmingham Abbasi Youth Network presented a special Thursday Night Program titled Rites of Return.

The evening began with the recitation of Dua Kumail, followed by Sura Yasin and an analysis of it’s significance when recited at the time of death by Sheikh Mohammed Kassamali, who also recited eulogy of Imam Hussain. The next item included a video address by Sheikh Muhammed Amin-Evans who spoke about the continuous benefits and importance of giving ghusl to the deceased.

Br Riyaz Ladak; Assistant chair of the Burial Committee, then explained what should be done in the first instance when a death occurs by both the family and the committee’s response. Next, Brother Gulam Datoo; Vice-President of KSIMC Birmingham and also EC Liaison to the Burial Committee, presented on the development of Digital Autopsy and how it was successfully used for the 1st time by the community in an Oxford Facility last month when Marhum Akil Lalji passed away. Please remember the Marhum in your prayers.

With the recurring importance of Health and Safety being reinforced in all establishments, Dr Walji; Burial Committee Health and Safety advisor, gave a brief account of how to be aware of health and safety during the Ghusl procedure. This address was to raise awareness of safety risks for the family at the time of a death and also the committee’s responsibilities.

The final presentation came from both the Ladies and Gents Ghusl & Kafan committees who separately for both sides gave a faux demonstration of how to give Ghusl and Kafan to the deceased and an explanation of the different stages.

With such a large turnout in the ladies and gents, the speakers and committees’ were asked a variety of questions which were answered at the end. After receiving feedback, we can confidently conclude that the first special Thursday night program was a tremendous success and extremely informative for all those who attended.

On Sunday 1st November 2015, the Birmingham Abbasi Youth Network (BAYN), in conjunction with the Tabligh Committee hosted their second event: Reborn. Both male and female speakers were contacted to share their story about how they had journeyed to the path of the Ahlulbayt (as).

The aim of this insight was to enable the attendees to empathise with someone who was/is new to the community and someone who may have only recently reverted to Islam. This then allowed people to reflect on what the community does well in giving support to reverts and what the community could improve on in both the short and long term.
