On Thursday 5th November 2015, the KSIMC Birmingham Burial Committee in conjunction with Birmingham Abbasi Youth Network presented a special Thursday Night Program titled Rites of Return.
The evening began with the recitation of Dua Kumail, followed by Sura Yasin and an analysis of it’s significance when recited at the time of death by Sheikh Mohammed Kassamali, who also recited eulogy of Imam Hussain. The next item included a video address by Sheikh Muhammed Amin-Evans who spoke about the continuous benefits and importance of giving ghusl to the deceased.
Br Riyaz Ladak; Assistant chair of the Burial Committee, then explained what should be done in the first instance when a death occurs by both the family and the committee’s response. Next, Brother Gulam Datoo; Vice-President of KSIMC Birmingham and also EC Liaison to the Burial Committee, presented on the development of Digital Autopsy and how it was successfully used for the 1st time by the community in an Oxford Facility last month when Marhum Akil Lalji passed away. Please remember the Marhum in your prayers.
With the recurring importance of Health and Safety being reinforced in all establishments, Dr Walji; Burial Committee Health and Safety advisor, gave a brief account of how to be aware of health and safety during the Ghusl procedure. This address was to raise awareness of safety risks for the family at the time of a death and also the committee’s responsibilities.
The final presentation came from both the Ladies and Gents Ghusl & Kafan committees who separately for both sides gave a faux demonstration of how to give Ghusl and Kafan to the deceased and an explanation of the different stages.
With such a large turnout in the ladies and gents, the speakers and committees’ were asked a variety of questions which were answered at the end. After receiving feedback, we can confidently conclude that the first special Thursday night program was a tremendous success and extremely informative for all those who attended.
