14. Ramadhan 1447

imamhussein
The Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) has said: Surely, there exists in the hearts of the Mu'mineen, with respect to the martyrdom of Husain (A.S.), a heat that never subsides.

(Mustadrak al Wasail vol 10 pg. 318)
On the day of Ashura, Imam Hussain (AS) stood up against injustice, tyranny and oppression and yet, when we look around us, these same vices are what make up the world we live in today.  The cry for help by Imam Hussain (AS) on the plains of Karbala is one that still echoes today and will continue to do so until the end of time.  Therefore, one needs to question, are we able to answer this call for help by our beloved Imam (AS)? If Imam Mahdi (AJFS) was to re-appear right now, would we be a part of his army?  When answering the call for help by Imam Hussain (AS), we are essentially preparing ourselves for the coming of our Living Imam (AJFS).  However, are we ready?
As we start the new Islamic year, it is important to question how we are progressing on the path towards Allah (SWT) and what lessons we are taking from the role models who were present in Karbala.  The examples that we can take are such amazing treasures that both Muslims and Non-Muslims alike have taken lessons from the life of Imam Hussain (AS).  For example, Mahatma Gandhi has said:

"I learned from Hussain how to be oppressed and victorious"

The Dalai Lama has also realised the great personalities that we have in Islam when he said:

'If we had Ali's Nahjul Balagha and Hussain's Karbala, the whole world today would be Buddhist'

Yet, have we, as Shias, fully understood the treasures that we have within our faith and have we really taken all the lessons that we can from such great personalities?  As we begin the new Islamic year, let us all make a resolution to make this Muharram more beneficial than the previous year and let us inshAllah strive towards preparing for the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (AJFS).

We pray to Allah (SWT) that during this Islamic year, we are able to get closer to Him.  May Allah (SWT) also hasten the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (AJFS) and make us all part of his army inshAllah.

As the month of Muharram is also the first month in the Islamic Calender, specific amaals have been recommended by the Holy Prophet of Islam (SAW) which can be found at: http://www.duas.org/muharram_01.htm

Sheikh Abbas Qummi also narrates in Mafatih al-Jinan from Sheikh Tusi that it is highly recommended to fast during the first 9 days of the month of Muharram.
