On the 7th Feb we have a #VisitMyMosque event from 2-4pm– which is an MCB initiative, run nationwide across many mosques. Our aim is to give some clarity to neighbours about what Islam is about, and what we offer to the local community.

We have a few stalls in the imambargah to address the above aim. The stalls will be on:

  • A fun Quiz about Islam
  • On Hijab – with a practical demonstration
  • Books + Listening to the Holy Qur’an (to stimulate the kinaesthetic amongst the visitors)
  • What our community does & services we offer to the local community
  • Who is Hussain

There will also be a guided tour of the mosque and its facilities by one of our 3 qualified guided tourers, followed by a discussion and Q&A with some refreshments.

Members are asked to make our guests feel welcome and feel at home. You are most welcome to participate in the discussion circles and also engage with the visitors. If you can bring along at least one non-Muslim/Shia to the event it would be amazing.

On Sunday 10th January 2016, something amazing happened at Mehfil e Abbas (Birmingham)… could this be the revolutionary shape of mosque programmes of the future?

In order to engage the young families of our community, a concept was proposed whereby a celebratory event would be devised in order combine the family, community spirit, Islamic and social education in a moral fun Islamic environment. The basic underlying ethos was that if our children were to be able to associate having fun with the love of the Ahlul Bayt, we’re on our way to success individually as families and as a community. And what better time than around the celebrations of Eid al-Zahra, Milad an-Nabi and the wiladat of our 11th Holy Imam (as).

The event went on a journey from conception to realisation with the help of an enthusiastic group of Jamaat supporters, and only they know how much fun and frolics they had on this journey! With over 200 children and a further 200 adults attending on the day, the day was packed full of amazing highlights. Following the children of our community leading the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, the master of ceremonies Zainab Najafi handed over to Sheikh Ali Reza Bhojani who delivered an engaging talk entitled ‘Celebrating the family'.

KSIMC of Birmingham hosts Faiths and Community Leaders at Peace and Love event to condemn recent attacks in Afghanistan, Iraq, France and Lebanon

On Tuesday 17th November 2015, a number of Faiths and Community Leaders gathered at KSIMC of Birmingham on 17 Clifton Road, Balsall Heath to express their support for all those affected by the attacks worldwide. Prayers and messages of Love, Hope, Peace and Unity were shared by over two hundred citizens at the Mosque, which hosted the event.

After a harrowing narration of the previous week’s events carried out by Daesh in Baghdad, Beirut, Paris and Zabul, the Mosque’s President Naushad Mehrali addressed the public on behalf of the KSIMC Birmingham. He stated, "All it takes for evil to prevail is for good people like us to do nothing. We all have a powerful weapon - sincerity and supplication."

Muslim Leader and Local Councillor Mohammed Afzal reiterated the need for unity in this time and that the acts of a small minority must be condemned as Islam teaches 'killing one person is the equivalent of killing the whole of humanity.'

Community and Faith leaders then followed with messages of prayer, peace, hope, love, and solidarity.

Anglican Deacon Jessica Foster eloquently reflected on the relevance of prayer at this testing time and built upon the words of the Dalai Lama who said 'prayer alone is not enough, prayer is action.'

The Tabligh Committee of the Jamaat has been offered a unique opportunity to host post-madrasah classes for youth and adults to be conducted by Shaykh Mohamed Shomali.

The classes will be on Aqaid, Islamic History, Akhlaq and Islamic Laws and will be taught up to a very high level. We hope to be able to organise 2-hour sessions once or twice a week. In order to do this, we request members to register their interest, with preferred days for the classes, by contacting the Jamaat office or by filling in the online form (click here)

This is an excellent opportunity for us to enhance our knowledge of Islam by investing 2 hours a week for the course.

The closing date for responses is 30th October 2015.
