Tawfiqali Jivraj receiving the Defibrillator on behalf of the KSIMC Birmingham

A vital piece of life-saving equipment will be available at Mehfil-e-abbas, KSIMC of Birmingham, for members to use in the event of someone suffering a cardiac arrest.

On Thursday 17th March 2016, the KSIMC of Birmingham took delivery of its defibrillator and some of the first-aiders were trained in its use with a further more trained at a later date.

The KSIMC of Birmingham were visited by West Midlands Ambulance Service who trained the first aiders on using the machine which could restart the heart of someone who suffers a cardiac arrest.

A defibrillator is a device that can be used to restart ones' heart if they’ve suffered a cardiac arrest. These machines are extremely easy to use, meaning people of all ages and walks of life can provide emergency care to those who need it, quickly and effectively prior to the arrival of an ambulance.

Eighty-five percent of those people who suffer cardiac arrests have the ability to be corrected by defibrillation. The quicker someone is defibrillated, not only improves the chance of their survival but it can also help to improve the chances of a patient’s full recovery and reduce the time to do so. For every minute a patient is in cardiac arrest, their chance of survival decreases by 10 percent.

The Jamaat in conjunction with the Worcester Crown Court arranged a court visit for a small group of our members during December 2015.

The day was spent as guests of Honourable Judge Abbas Mithani QC and the visiting members were invited to observe actual court proceedings where Judge A Mithani was the presiding Judge.

The team was also invited for lunch and an informal get together with other judges from Worcester Court.

The visiting members found the occasion to be very educational and hopefully this will be a start of future visits to larger courts in the West Midlands.

The visiting members are very grateful to Honourable Judge Abbas Mithani for arranging the visit and for the excellent hospitality afforded to the members of the Jamaat.
