Well done to Mussarat Bandali who under the Captainship of Samana Fazel formed a "L'Equipe Mix" team and came WINNERS of the football ⚽ ?

We are sooo proud of ALL our girls for taking part and hats off to @Paris Jamaat for such a well organised and enjoyable event.??

Saturday 26th August 2017

On Saturday 26th August 2017 we all gathered at Sir Harry's School in Peterborough for the first day of the MAMT 2017 tournament. Within the group of over 200 participants we had 53 Al Najiyaat members all kitted out looking extremely stylish in our new Al Najiyaat tops all ready for the games.

FOOTBALL

This was the first year that we entered THREE teams in the children's category. A new category for Under 9 girls was introduced in the MAMT 2017 fixtures and we are soooo proud that we took 2 under 9 girls teams. Thanks to the hard work of Mussarat Bandali and Sukaina Tejani Hemraj who have been working hard all year with these girls. The Two under 9 teams, the Birmingham Shooting stars and Birmingham 313 both played extremely well in their games. I think most of their mums lost their voices cheering their daughters on in the games. The Birmingham Shooting stars made it to the finals and after a well fought out game came runners up in the under 9 category. All the girls who participated were awarded medals and we hope that this is the beginning of their journey through MAMT and they will be coming every year and become regulars like us .

12 and Under Birmingham Diamonds

These girls formed their team only recently and did not have any coaching practice. They are a group of friends playing together and they did very well in their games. They played hard and even after a few knocks gave it their all. They were knocked out in the group stage against some very stiff competition.

21+ Birmingham Eagles and Birmingham Falcons

Both teams played really well and the Falcons narrowly missed a place in the semi-finals.

35+ Unity Team

WELL DONE to Azmina Elias Celtic team that beat the Lady Bugs in the 35+ unity games.

BADMINTON SINGLES

This year a new format was introduced to badminton. It took us a long time to work out how things worked but we got there and it saw a lot of the Brummie ladies face some very strong competition. Well done to Shakila Meghjee for WINNING the Championship trophy. Shakila aunty was originally entered in the 50 plus category but as there was not a Lot of players in that category was moved to the 16+ and she really showed us how it's done.

SWIMMING

We had one participant for swimming. Fatema Rajbhai, WELL DONE for coming runner up in the 13-15 swimming category.

SUNDAY 27th August 2017

WHAT A WEEKEND Flushed faceFace screaming in fear we can honestly say hand on heart that MAMT 2016 has been a tournament to remember. From the very entertaining cheers to the delicious food to the unparalleled hospitality by the hosts and not to forget the many trophies that we won, we all came away from the tournaments with unforgettable memories we will cherish forever.

This year we saw a record number of first timers going to MAMT and many of these first-timers WON our trophies for Birmingham.

The results from the weekend are as follows:

Basketball and hoopNETBALL

Birmingham Comets came third in the group stages. Birmingham Stars came top of their group and made it to the semi-final After a very tough match which saw the girls playing their hearts out they lost narrowly to Stanmore.

We had a friendly over 35+ mixed unity game which was well represented by the Brummie ladies Lutfiya Aunty and Fatim Bandali who won their game.

FootballFOOTBALL

Birmingham City came third in their group stage. We have to give credit to Nikhat Aunty who after only two days of training made some heart-stopping saves I think Joe Hart better watch out.

Birmingham United came second in their group stage and made it to the semifinal. They had a very hard match with the reigning champions and their Goalkeeper Mumtaz Aunty made many amazing saves. After a well-fought game, Birmingham lost to Leicester.

BADMINTON

This sport saw our biggest number of entries and also spanned the widest age range.

Special mention to Shazmeen Dhalla and Shazia Somji who entered the Advanced Category and played extremely well against some very stiff competition and Husna Aunty who only started playing recently and bravely took on some difficult opponents.
TABLE TENNIS

21+ Category Winners: Mumtaz Ismail and Nikhat Panjwani

These ladies kept their win a secret and I think we were soooo proud of their achievement.

We cannot end this without saying a big THANKYOU to each and every participant who represented Al Najiyaat this year. We felt like a family especially having all the Aunties keeping us in check making sure we were well fed and motivated. I would also like to take this opportunity to THANK my coordinators Sukaina Rashid Hemraj, Fatema Soonsara and Nabila Mohammed for Netball. Mussarat Bandali for football and Natasha Rajpar for badminton without whom things would definitely not have run as smoothly. They have dedicated their precious time ensuring we are all trained and ready for the tournament and Inshallah look forward to a bigger stronger team next year.
