On Sunday 10th January 2016, something amazing happened at Mehfil e Abbas (Birmingham)… could this be the revolutionary shape of mosque programmes of the future?
In order to engage the young families of our community, a concept was proposed whereby a celebratory event would be devised in order combine the family, community spirit, Islamic and social education in a moral fun Islamic environment. The basic underlying ethos was that if our children were to be able to associate having fun with the love of the Ahlul Bayt, we’re on our way to success individually as families and as a community. And what better time than around the celebrations of Eid al-Zahra, Milad an-Nabi and the wiladat of our 11th Holy Imam (as).
The event went on a journey from conception to realisation with the help of an enthusiastic group of Jamaat supporters, and only they know how much fun and frolics they had on this journey! With over 200 children and a further 200 adults attending on the day, the day was packed full of amazing highlights. Following the children of our community leading the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, the master of ceremonies Zainab Najafi handed over to Sheikh Ali Reza Bhojani who delivered an engaging talk entitled ‘Celebrating the family'.
